Discopauli – Official Bio

From Carlisle’s dancefloors to global streams, Discopauli (aka Paul Gordon) has been keeping the groove alive for over four decades. A veteran DJ, Producer, and Remixer of Disco and House, Pauli first made his mark in the legendary Pagoda and Buskers Superclubs in Carlisle, in the North of the UK.

From 1983 onwards, he held down residencies that packed out the dancefloor week in, week out, for more than 25 years. These venues were true institutions of their time — the kind of Clubs that drew in 2,000 to 3,000 people every weekend — and Pauli’s sets became a defining part of Carlisle’s nightlife, shaping the soundtrack of nights out across Cumbria and the Borders. His ability to read a crowd and keep the energy flowing earned him a lasting reputation as a trusted name behind the Decks.

Alongside him for much of that journey has been his partner-in-crime, Samantha D — affectionately known as his “DJ Wife” (not in real life). A fellow DJ of over 30 years and his self-confessed Padawan, Samantha D brings her own energy to the Booth. The pair are just as often seen mixing and bouncing together behind the Decks as they are out front on the Dancefloor, keeping the vibe alive wherever they go.

Musically, Pauli’s roots run deep in the anthems that defined Disco and House culture. His all-time top tunes include Alison Limerick – “Where Love Lives”, Space Cowboy (Morales Mix), SOS Band – “Just Get Ready” (Michael Gray Mix), Solu Music – “Fade” (Grant Nelson Big Room Mix), and Tiempo – “Saturday Night” — timeless tracks that continue to inspire his sound and shape his sets. With many more future favourites to come, these classics are the heartbeat of Discopauli’s musical DNA.

Fast-forward to today, and the Disco spirit still burns bright. In 2023, Pauli took his passion to the airwaves with CRFM Radio, broadcasting weekly sessions of Disco heat and Classic House anthems to a loyal local audience.

Behind the Decks, Pauli is armed with the venerable Pioneer XDJ-XZ — his Club-level standalone weapon of choice — while also rocking a Mixtream Pro Go for smaller gigs and a Reloop Buddy for nimble sets. His sets are powered by DJay Pro (with a dash of VirtualDJ when needed), and pushed into the future with Stems control via a custom Midi Fighter 64, letting him mash, chop, and re-build tracks live in ways that keep Dancefloors guessing.

In the Studio, the setup is just as serious: a Mac Studio Ultra, MacBook Pro, dual displays (an LG 4K and Philips UltraWide OLED 34”), and an iPad Pro form the heart of his workflow. For Radio prep, Pauli dives into DJ.Studio, while his Remixes and Originals are forged in Logic Pro — blending shimmering Strings, chunky Basslines, and soulful Hooks into tracks built for pure Dancefloor euphoria.

With influences ranging from Michael Gray to Dave Lee, Dr Packer, and the Glitterbox ethos, Discopauli’s sound bridges the golden age of Disco with the punch of modern House. Whether it’s live on Radio, in the Club, or streaming on Spotify playlists worldwide, his mission remains the same:

to make people move, smile, and feel the love of the music.

They say life begins at 40… but let me tell you, they were off by two decades. At 60, I feel like I’ve finally hit my stride — and I’ve got the disco shoes to prove it.

But DJing is only one side of me. By day, i manage an  IT business for 22 years, fixing tech, building gaming rigs, and helping people fall back in love with their PCs. By night (and weekends), it’s all about disco house beats, re-edits, and productions that bring old-school soul into today’s sound systems.

Music has taken me on one wild ride — from spinning vinyl to syncing digital stems, from cassette mixtapes to global streaming. I’ve shared stages with friends, trained up new DJs (my padawan included), and built a music library that’s part obsession, part archive, and all heart.

And now, at 60, I’m not slowing down — far from it. This is just the start of a new chapter, with more music, more mixes, more radio shows, and more chances to keep the disco spirit alive.

So yes, life really does begin at 60. And this blog? It’s my little corner of the web to share the music, the memories, the mixes, and maybe even a few misadventures with my trusty sidekick Jarvis the cocker spaniel (who’s always up for a boogie in the living room).

Here’s to the next chapter.
